Welcome to V Strom'in In Idaho! I am catering this blog towards those of you who prefer the street side of two wheelin. I purchased my 2006 DL 1000 off of Ebay last October. I turn 50 in a few days and so this is my year of jubilee! I ride it to work if it is 35 deg or better and not raining, which it does very little here in Pocatello, ID as we are high dessert.
My son encouraged me to go for this one on Ebay, so we drive to Las Vegas, sight unseen, about 600 miles to the south. We actually were on a trip south of SLC with a trailer to deliver a nitrogen tank, stopped at a wifi connection and made the deal. We didn't have any cash on us, at least not of that magnitude, but a friendly Wells Fargo Branch in North SLC gave my son a signature loan in about 30 minutes so we could be on our way! We just said we were heading to Las Vegas and needed some cash! :) (He was the one with a credit card with them, an unemployed student about to graduate. No wonder there is a loan crisis in America!)
I was getting cold feet, but decided it was a win/win situation. It was going to be a great adventure with my son, whether the bike was what was advertized or not. It turned out that it was every bit what he said it was. He was an airplane mechanic and it was very clean. We sealed the deal about 11:30 that night, loaded it on the trailer (it was raining and we didn't have helmets with us.) and headed back to Pocatello. We got home almost exactly 24 hours after we had left, with out a clue we would be picking up a bike.
It has been everything I hoped it would be, great power, great handling and a whole lot of fun to ride.

I replaced the windshield from Cee Bailey's Aircraft Plastics after riding it a it on the Interstate. I didn't like the wind buffeting that you got and the windshield real took care of it. It was a great investment.
I also sprung for a Corbin seat, which I like petty well, but not sure it was worth the $. I couldn't take the stock seat at all as my butt was numb in about 15 miles. The Corbin is a bit better shaped, but could be better. It is quite hard, but I don't have the numbness. I also bought a sheep skin to put over it for long rides which really saved my butt(literally) on the 400+ mile a day rides.
In July I put about 2300 miles riding a couple rides one to Roberts, MT through Yellowstone Park and over the Beartooth Highway and coming back on the Chief Joseph Highway and down through the Tetons and Jackson Hole. You can read more about them on my site by clicking the links. The other ride was over to Boise for a meeting and then with my son to Lewiston, ID and back down the Oregon side through Hells Canyon. It was a fun ride.
Any other V Stromers out there from Idaho? (Or anyone interested in coming to Idaho to ride?)

Hi. My name is Richard Newcomb and I live right here in Pocatello. I have a VStrom and would love to join you on some rides. There are several I would like to do that involve a combination of paved and unpaved roads that I am a little hesitant to do alone. Give me a call (237.1186) or email me (idahonewk@gmail.com)
